Giraffes Can’t Dance

A mindful children’s lesson and activity based on the book Giraffes Can’t Dance.

“Sometimes’s when you’re different, you just need a different song”- Giraffes Can’t Dance"

In this sweet story, Gerald the giraffe discovers he can dance even when he thinks it is impossible. Gerald finds out that he may not be the best dancer at the Jungle Dance when all the animals start to laugh at his dancing skills. Gerald walks away, feeling ashamed and sad. While he is staring at the stars a new friend tells Gerald to be himself and to find his own song.

Confidence and self-discovery are the themes of “Giraffes Can’t Dance.” I hope you enjoy this book and lesson plan, and always remember, “We all can dance when we find music that we love.”- Gerald

Art: This art lesson by WonderSpark puppets is the perfect way to make Gerald dance. We laughed so hard as we wiggled our fingers to make Gerald sing his own song.

Reading: As you read the story, add my fun yoga poses in “Gerald’s Lesson plan below!
