Little Blue Truck

A mindful children’s lesson and activity based on the book Little Blue Truck.

Beep! Beep! The Little Blue Truck lends a helping hand!

This sweet book is about friendship and learning to slow down.

It has been a hit with all three of my littles, and we’ve spent countless hours picking out all of the animals and practicing the sounds they make. Go ahead, give it your best, Moo! or Oink!

I’ve included some traditional learning ideas into my free mindfulness lesson plan, including sight words for kindergartners, so you and your children can make this fun book a unit study.

Of course, if you need a new copy of the book for your home or gifts, please click the Amazon links below and support me because, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Little Blue Truck Home Learning Unit Ideas

Math: Measuring using farm units from a lesson plan created by Deirdre from JDaniel4Moms website. It has free printables and other fun lessons to play with.

Science: Farm life: Life cycle of a chicken and a fun dramatic play milk a “cow” experiment.

Art: Little blue truck popsicle stick characters were a huge hit at my house! It was fun to build them with the family, but a great way to get the kiddos to keep reading the book on their own.

I found the idea on glued to my crafts blog and highly recommend it for some popsicle stick truck fun!

Reading: To teach the concept of sequencing, ask your children what animals were introduced to the story first, second, third, etc.

If they enjoy art, have some paper and crayons or markers handy and encourage them to draw their three favorite animals and put them in the sequence of the book!

Social Emotional Growth: Being kind and helping others. Ask your child(ren), “What does it mean to be a good friend?” and write down five ideas together.

Decorate the list, post it on the refrigerator or another place in the house, and find ways to do each idea.

This is another fun activity for the family to share acts of kindness with others while reinforcing the positive benefits of social connection with your kiddos!

Enjoy!
